Description
Vintage French Film Movie Poster
The image is a famous poster advertising the Cinématographe Lumière, created by the French artist and lithographer Henri Brispot in 1896. It is widely considered to be the world's first movie poster.
This poster was used to promote the first-ever public, commercial film screenings by the Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis Lumière.
The illustration depicts a fictional, large crowd eagerly waiting to enter the venue, contrasting with the actual first screening on December 28, 1895, which only had about 30 attendees. News of the innovation quickly spread, however, and subsequent screenings were highly successful.
The original poster is kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, France.
