About the author:
Barbara Elaine Hänni Berg, M.A, a Special Education Teacher who first came to Maui in the 1970's. She swims and dives with Honu (Hawaiian for turtle)  several times a week primarily in reserve waters. The illustrations come from repeated contact with Honu, and are a pictorial journal of her experiences. Palapala says, "While gazing into Honu's eyes, I felt my heart begin to melt and my emotions overflowed. I believe that Honu adopted and guides me. On this site we feature a number of published books hardbound and softbound. These printed works grew out of my feelings of a profound respect and love for Honu, the environment, and a desire to share this with others".
