This AVA has a gross total of 168,960 acres of land, Red volcanic soils can be found on the hillsides while alluvial fans and benches on the valley floor provide well-drained beds for the vines. Some of the varietals being produced from the Clear Lake AVA are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, Syrah, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer.
