Mendocino Wineries
American Viticultural Area
This print by artist Kerne Erickson depicts the Mendocino AVA established in 1984 which is located in the much larger North Coast AVA and is a part of Mendocino County. This county has a wide range of viticultural mesoclimates and soil types that are influenced by the county's diversity in geography. On the eastern borders of the county is the Mayacamas Mountains separating it from nearby Lake County . Within this county, the Mendocino Range segment of the larger California Coast Ranges divides the region into two climatic spheres. The land to the west of the ranges, closest to the coast tend to have more maritime climate that includes more cooling, rain and fog influences from the Pacific ocean. Varietals include: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Barbera, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvingon, Riesling and Gewürztraminer.
