He was born in 1913 in St. Gallen. He was a self-taught painter and graphic designer. From 1931 to 1950, he created more than 200 posters that gave him international recognition. In his compositions he worked with colorful lighting effects, and his posters for the food industry strikingly emphasized the product and its advantages. In 1948 he retired from poster designing and moved to the Côte d'Azur, where he met Picasso. In 1956 he changed his name to Viktor Ruzo. From 1959 he lived and painted in Montreux, and in 1964 he was chosen to represent Swiss art at the Swiss Pavilion at the World Exposition in New York.
