Plot Summary
The story follows San Francisco private investigator Sam Spade (Bogart) as he becomes entangled in a complex web of deceit and murder after his partner is killed. A mysterious and manipulative woman (Astor), who uses several aliases including Brigid O'Shaughnessy, draws him into a frantic search for a priceless, jewel-encrusted falcon statuette.

Ultimately, despite his feelings for her, Spade upholds his code and turns Brigid over to the police, famously describing the object of everyone's obsession as "the stuff that dreams are made of."
